Women Dressed in Red to March on Lincoln Road

Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 5:30 p.m.—7 p.m.

-- As Part of National Pay Equity Day --

In recognition of National Equal Pay Day,

join the members of the Miami Beach Commission for Women

and other participants for a “Women in the Red” march on

Lincoln Road at Euclid Circle on

Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 5:30 p.m.—7 p.m.

Participants wear red to call attention to the fact that women are “in the red”

when it comes to equal pay (23 percent less, on average).

The women will converge on Lincoln Road at Euclid Avenue and march

toward Alton Road and back to Euclid Avenue.

Millie Herrera, founder of The Miami Group, and former presidential appointee

at the U.S. Department of Labor as the Regional Representative to

Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis, will be the guest speaker.

Members of the Miami Beach Commission for Women will also distribute

flyers listing facts regarding the event and the status of pay equity today.

Pay equity is a method of eliminating discrimination against women who are

paid less than men for jobs requiring comparable levels of expertise.

Median earnings of women working full-time year round are

approximately 23 percent less than men’s median earnings.

To achieve pay equity, the U.S. government has introduced several acts,

including the Fair Pay Act and Paycheck Fairness Act.

Wear red and come out to show your support.

Since they released their latest ad featuring Purple Heart recipient Glenn Kunkel, almost ten thousand veterans, military family members and VoteVets supporters have signed our petition supporting universal background checks.

For us, this issue makes sense. Every service member needs to pass a background check before we're allowed to handle a weapon, and we should require the same of civilians at home.

The Senate is expected to vote on this issue in less than two weeks, and they need to hear from us before they do.

Use our "Contact Congress Tool" to tell your Senators you support universal background checks for gun purchases.

Since our last email, an outpouring of contributions allowed us to put almost $200,000 behind the ad in three key states.

We have a unique and important voice in this fight, and I hope you'll make sure yours is heard today.

All the best,

Jon Soltz

Dear Kristin -

One year ago, I was proud to walk onto the House floor for the State of the Union Address.

The next day, after casting my last vote, I resigned my seat in Congress.

Mark and I will be there again tomorrow night, because this is a critical moment in time for legislation to reduce gun violence in the United States.

That's also why we're releasing our first television ad on the issue. As one of the first donors to Americans for Responsible Solutions, I wanted you to see it first.

Watch the ad and forward it to your friends:

Nine out of ten Americans support universal background checks for gun purchases.

Congress must act. Let's get this done.
