Dialogue: Racism

“Men hate each other because they fear each other, and they fear each other because they don’t know each other,
and they don’t know each other because they are often separated from each other.”
  Dr. Martin Luther King

and loving atmosphere for individuals to learn new information, share their experiences, ask questions -

From the desk of  Noelene Westman Volunteer Coordinator- Democrats of South Dade Club

To All Volunteers:

As you recover from the Democratic loss in the primary election, I wanted to extend my sincere appreciation to each volunteer for all of your work and assistance in working for Democratic candidates. Volunteers performed phone calls, distributed slate cards on the Metrorail, in churches and communities, knocked on doors, held honk and waves and events and worked in Democratic Offices throughout South Florida. I can assure you our presence was felt by the candidates and their staff and they commented very favorably and with appreciation for each volunteer.

Your quick response to events on short notice, request for food, supplies and equipment were amazing. Your hard work demonstrated the commitment that Democrats have in supporting candidates toward re-election. The friendships with other volunteers that developed generated memberships in the club.

Two weeks ago, the Pinecrest office logged in 20,000 phone calls and over 5,000 knocks on doors and I am sure those total numbers were much higher at the end. The combined work in other offices generated an amazing total.

Very soon the work will begin once again for the national election. I hope the result of this election will motivate you even more to participate as a volunteer so that we can claim victory in 2016.

Thank you once again for your valued support and assistance.
Noelene

Since they released their latest ad featuring Purple Heart recipient Glenn Kunkel, almost ten thousand veterans, military family members and VoteVets supporters have signed our petition supporting universal background checks.

For us, this issue makes sense. Every service member needs to pass a background check before we're allowed to handle a weapon, and we should require the same of civilians at home.

The Senate is expected to vote on this issue in less than two weeks, and they need to hear from us before they do.

Use our "Contact Congress Tool" to tell your Senators you support universal background checks for gun purchases.

http://action.votevets.org/your-voice

Since our last email, an outpouring of contributions allowed us to put almost $200,000 behind the ad in three key states.

We have a unique and important voice in this fight, and I hope you'll make sure yours is heard today.

All the best,

Jon Soltz

Dear Kristin -

One year ago, I was proud to walk onto the House floor for the State of the Union Address.

The next day, after casting my last vote, I resigned my seat in Congress.

Mark and I will be there again tomorrow night, because this is a critical moment in time for legislation to reduce gun violence in the United States.

That's also why we're releasing our first television ad on the issue. As one of the first donors to Americans for Responsible Solutions, I wanted you to see it first.

Watch the ad and forward it to your friends:

http://action.americansforresponsiblesolutions.org/get-it-done

Nine out of ten Americans support universal background checks for gun purchases.

Congress must act. Let's get this done.
